What is Empower kickstart?
Empower Kickstart are college preparation programs. Specially designed to help high school and college students choose a course of study. Are you excited about taking the step to college? Or do you still have no idea what you want to do after your exams? Then there is Empower Kickstart to help you.
You gain self-knowledge, explore different education options and incorporate all insights into a tangible piece of work, learning to use the 3D printer, laser cutter and other tools from our makerspaces.
There are two variants of this program; Empower Kickstart VO for students of havo and vwo and Empower Kickstart MBO for mbo students (level 4).
This program is interesting for you if you are in the upper grades of havo or vwo and do not yet know which further education suits you. You will discover what you really like. In an environment different from what you are used to. In a practical way.
All the results of this program can be used for your profile paper. Discuss the possibilities with the profile paper supervisor at your school.

Are you in the (pre)exam year of the mbo and are you considering an advanced program at the hbo? Do you want to change direction, but are not sure which one? Do you have doubts about whether the hbo suits you? Then this college preparatory program is interesting for you.
Together with other mbo students, you work on a practical assignment in the educational environment of Fontys Pulsed. You will practice college skills and get a broad orientation on the possibilities that the college has to offer you. You will receive intensive guidance from our study choice experts.
You can use all the results of this program to compose your portfolio for the Optional Unit Preparation for Higher Education (K0125).

Empower is a flexible educational program. You can start the program every three weeks. When you sign up, you are not committed to anything yet. We always have an introductory conversation first. After that, you decide whether you actually want to start or not. Even if you are currently studying outside of Fontys, you can apply for the Empower program.
The Empower program is available in Eindhoven and Tilburg.
To join the Empower program , it’s important to submit your application on time. Below are the deadlines for the September 2025 intake, depending on your country of residence:

Jules Sinsel, with a background in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design, is a lecturer specializing in craftsmanship through technical applications. He integrates elements of sustainability and improvement engineering into his teaching. Excelling in challenging, inspiring, and guiding students, he supports them in their learning process, helping them develop into innovative and skilled professionals.
Remi Rooding works as an educational designer at Fontys Pulsed, where he develops innovative and practice-oriented educational concepts. Remi supports students in their learning process, encouraging their autonomy and guiding them in both their academic and personal growth. Additionally, he is also involved in the development of educational programs at Fontys School of Life, where he focuses on designing initiatives aimed at empowering young people to learn life skills.
Tom has a background in psychology and guides students in exploring their personal and professional identity. His goal is to use genuine interest and curiosity to help students proactively make choices that suit them and discover the areas in which they thrive.
With a background in Graphic Design and an MA in Situated Design, Zeynep is dedicated to exploring and teaching design thinking, also known as "design-based working." As a lecturer, she approaches education with the philosophy of "teaching to learn," fostering a collaborative environment where students are encouraged to ask meaningful questions and uncover fresh perspectives.
Outside the classroom, Zeynep is passionate about exploring new recipes and spending time with her cats.
Yelda, with a background in positive psychology and well-being, supports students in exploring their personal and professional identities through coaching and education. Passionate about fostering resilience and self-awareness, she guides students in setting goals and taking ownership of their growth. Her inclusive approach helps students build confidence and insight for success in dynamic workplaces.
